About the role

About this Role Work where it matters most, achieve what matters more Be part of a team where passion meets purpose, as we work together where the challenge is greatest to change lives and build futures. Ormiston Sir Stanley Matthews Academy are seeking a Teacher of Science who will inspire curiosity, discovery and a love of the natural world in an academy where professional growth and wellbeing go hand in hand. Join our supportive team from September 2026. The Science team at OSSMA believes that great teaching thrives within a culture of shared ideas, collaboration, and strong subject expertise. As a Science Teacher, you will join a department that plans collaboratively, shares best practice, and supports one another to secure the very best outcomes for our students. With the support of a skilled team of technicians, you will be empowered to deliver engaging and high-quality practical lessons that bring science to life. Science is at the heart of understanding the world around us, and at OSSMA we are passionate about equipping students with the knowledge and skills to question, explore and influence the world they live in. Students follow the AQA Combined Science Trilogy at KS4, with many choosing to study Triple Science, gaining separate GCSEs in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Beyond the classroom, our vibrant extra-curricular programme (including a popular weekly STEM club and national competitions such as OAT STEM-fest where our students have achieved national success) fosters curiosity and a genuine enthusiasm for the subject. We also offer a wide range of trips and enrichment opportunities, alongside engaging events such as Medical Mavericks, inspiring students to explore the limitless possibilities that science has to offer. Our Teaching & Learning DNA We believe that every teacher can improve, regardless of experience. Improvement is not optional; it is a core professional responsibility rooted in our belief that our students deserve the very best. To achieve this, every teacher at OSSMA benefits from a coaching culture: paired with an instructional coach for tailored support, trained as a coach themselves, and given opportunities to help colleagues refine practice using our agreed routines. Coaching is timetabled, built into directed time, and treated as central to our workβ€”not an add-on. We use StepLab to support this culture of development, providing precise feedback, research-led targets and a space to rehearse highly effective teaching techniques. Our Early Career Teachers (ECTs) receive additional support through a dedicated ECT mentor and ECT coach, ensuring guidance inside and outside the classroom and a strong foundation for future growth. We have agreed routines that run across our academy, grounded in academic research and how children learn best. These include: Turn and Talk Choral Chant High Frequency Questions Write - Pair - Share SLANT Cold Calling Mini Whiteboards Independent Practice These routines
