About the role

North Star 240° is the secondary provision of North Star Academy Trust based in North Bristol, specialising in supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. We aim to be part of a joined-up provision offering our pupils the outstanding education they deserve. We are looking for a positive, experienced and committed individual to lead our engagement team. The Engagement Lead will support the School Leadership Team in promoting positive behaviour and developing consistent systems and practices so that students can learn in a safe and secure environment. The Engagement Lead will play a pivotal role in supporting our pupils to access learning, develop social and emotional skills, and fully engage with the school curriculum. Working closely with staff, external agencies, pupils, and families, you will champion an inclusive and personalised approach to behaviour and learning. The position involves managing a team of engagement tutors, responding to and de-escalating crisis situations as they arise, supporting pupils with their learning in classroom, collaboratively developing personalised plans for pupils, recording and monitoring data. Main responsibilities: Supervise and manage the school engagement team. Work with SLT to enable students to overcome individual barriers to learning, by identifying the problems, creating solutions and providing a consistent support service. Record and manage behaviour data for individual students and school wide. To enable the students to raise standards of achievement, improve attendance and raise standards of behaviour. Contribute to, providing learner information, delivering advice and guidance, and induction programmes. Carry out duties to support the safe running of the school e.g. taking a core role in fire evacuation, the start and end of school day procedures and leading after-school catch-ups. Lead on behaviour management strategies, using restorative and therapeutic approaches to promote positive behaviour. Provide a strong, consistent presence around the school to support engagement and positive relationships. Work with teachers to adapt curriculum and classroom environments, ensuring accessibility for all pupils. Deliver small group and 1:1 interventions focused on social, emotional, and mental health development. Support staff in implementing effective behaviour and engagement strategies. Monitor and report on pupil engagement, progress, and wellbeing. Lead on safeguarding concerns in line with school policy, acting as a key point of contact and ensuring prompt action is taken. Model empathy, resilience, and respect at all times, fostering a safe and supportive school culture. Collaborate with colleagues to develop and share best practice.
