About the role

Shelley College is seeking to appoint a dedicated and highly effective Director of Science to lead our Science Faculty. This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious and passionate professional to play a key role in driving forward standards of teaching, learning and achievement. The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership across the Science Faculty, working closely with Heads of Department, senior leaders and colleagues to secure consistently high-quality teaching and outcomes for all students. You will be responsible for developing and implementing a broad, balanced and inclusive curriculum, monitoring standards, and supporting the professional development of staff. This role will also contribute to whole-school improvement priorities, ensuring that students are supported to achieve their full potential within a safe, inclusive and aspirational environment. The Ideal Candidate will: We are looking to appoint a highly motivated and reflective practitioner who demonstrates a strong commitment to excellence and continuous improvement. The successful candidate will: Hold Qualified Teacher Status and a relevant degree Have a proven track record of delivering high-quality teaching and securing strong outcomes at GCSE (A Level teaching desirable) Demonstrate the ability to lead, inspire and develop colleagues within a faculty setting Have strong analytical skills and the ability to use data effectively to inform teaching and drive improvement Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills Demonstrate high expectations of student behaviour, engagement and achievement Be fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people Be aligned with the Trust’s values and committed to contributing to the wider life of the school Overall Purpose of the role: As Director of Science you will be required to meet the general requirements of this post, as specified in the School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document. In addition, you will be required to fulfil any reasonable expectations from the Senior Leadership Team. The post will require you to work in partnership with the Arts teaching staff, TLR holders, Senior Leadership Team and governors to ensure the continuous improvement of the Expressive Arts Faculty. Safeguarding Requirement: This post requires the post holder to work in settings with children and young adults. Any employment offer is therefore subject to the results of an Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). People who may have contact with younger children (i.e. primary school age) are also required to complete a declaration about family or other members of their household. Applicants will be required to provide evidence of identity and qualifications and offers of employment will be subject to satisfactory references.
