Job Title: Second in Charge - English Department Are you an ambitious and inspiring English teacher ready to take the next step in your leadership journey? Bourne End Academy is seeking a talented Second in Charge of English to help drive excellence across our thriving department. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate practitioner who loves their subject and is eager to make a real difference. Working closely with the Head of English, you will play a key role in shaping curriculum intent, supporting high-quality teaching and learning, and raising outcomes for all students Key responsibilities: Support the strategic and day-to-day leadership of the English department, working closely with the Head of Department to ensure consistently high-quality teaching, learning and outcomes for all students Lead on curriculum development within English, contributing to the design, implementation and monitoring of schemes of work that meet national requirements and are responsive to pupils’ needs. Play an active role in raising achievement, using assessment data to monitor progress, identify underperformance and coordinate targeted intervention and support strategies. Support and develop colleagues within the department, contributing to CPD, mentoring staff, supporting new starters and fostering a culture of teamwork and professional growth. Contribute to whole-academy improvement, supporting the implementation of academy priorities, promoting E‑ACT values, and helping to drive innovation and best practice within English Pay range: M1 - UPS 3 (Fringe) £34,398 - £52,490 +TLR 2C Qualifications and Skills: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with a degree (or equivalent) in English or a related subject, demonstrating strong subject knowledge and a commitment to professional standards. Proven ability to deliver high‑quality teaching and positively impact student progress and attainment across the secondary age range. Strong curriculum and assessment expertise, including planning and delivering engaging schemes of work and effectively tracking and evaluating pupil progress. Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills, with experience of mentoring, coaching or supporting colleagues and fostering a collaborative team culture.
