About the English Department Our English Department is committed to delivering innovative, inspiring, and academically rigorous lessons, with a strong focus on outstanding teaching and learning. We centre our approach around the needs of the students, ensuring lessons are fast-paced, challenging, and memorable. We continually review and adapt our curriculum, from KS3 to KS5, ensuring it aligns with the latest GCSE and A Level reforms and equips students with valuable, transferable skills. At KS3, we offer a diverse range of texts from different eras and cultures, fostering independent, curious learners who are prepared for future academic success. Our GCSE and A Level results are consistently excellent. In 2025, 84% of students achieved grades 9-5 in English Literature and 78% in English Language, with 37% securing grades 7 and above. At A Level, 72% of Literature students achieved A*-B and 100% of Language and Literature students reached A*-B. In addition to English, Film Studies has flourished in recent years. Success at A Level led to the introduction of a highly successful GCSE, blending analytical skills with creative expression, showcased at our annual awards evening.
