About the role

History is taught throughout the 11 - 18 age range and at all levels and abilities at Hinchingbrooke. We enjoy results above the national average at both GCSE and A-Level. We are a department dedicated to our discipline and are particularly proud of the scale and rigour of our Key Stage 3 schemes of work. We ensure chronological, geographical, thematic, and conceptual breadth; and our knowledge-rich curriculum encompasses enquiry questions that truly allows students to thrive as historians. We are a popular subject at Key Stage 4, and we follow the Pearson: Edexcel specification encompassing Medicine through Time, Anglo-Saxon and Norman England, the Cold War and Mao’s China. History is also a well-respected and popular subject within the Sixth Form, and the disciplinary knowledge of staff allows us to offer two curriculum pathways of various Early Modern British and International Modern History. History at Hinchingbrooke has a special place in many pupils and parents' hearts because of the amazing environment that Hinchingbrooke House provides as a backdrop to our history studies. It is also highly regarded due to the tradition of high-quality teaching in the department and the opportunities for exciting extra-curricular activities. The History department is founded upon a love of subject, which is at the heart of all we do. The History Department is an enthusiastic and ambitious subject-specific hub and leads on several highly successful extra-curricular activities with numerous domestic and foreign trips, public lectures, and national competitions. The work of the History Department has been recognised by the Historical Association and the Prince’s Teaching Institute, whilst the Department also has strong links with the Faculty of Education, University of Cambridge. Both the school and department offer a bespoke CPD programme, and disciplinary rigour is central to our collective practice. The role will suit an enthusiastic and outstanding practitioner who wishes to share their expertise and make a difference. Additionally, Hinchingbrooke considers the Form Tutor as a key role in the support, development, and welfare of the students. Teachers are expected to undertake this role with the same standards and commitment as their subject role. Why come to Hinchingbrooke? This is a fantastic school to work in: on interview, we ask candidates for their impressions of the school and without fail they comment on how wonderful our students are, the positive team ethos amongst staff and how friendly and welcoming the school is. If you are an outstanding teacher, or if you aspire to be one, it really is worth applying for this post and joining somewhere special. We are seeking to appoint a candidate who is passionate about their subject area; a team player who will thrive on collaboration and teamwork. Someone who really wants to make a difference! We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and
