About the role

Reports to: Headteacher / Senior Leadership Team Responsible for: KS1 staff, quality of teaching and learning in Year 1 and 2. Introduction We are seeking an enthusiastic, inspirational Assistant KS1 Head Teacher to join our dedicated team and lead our KS1 provision to the next level of excellence. We are a two-form Catholic Primary school and part of the Diocese of Westminster Academy Trust. You will be part of the senior leadership team and have responsibility of a KS1 class. Job Purpose To provide strategic leadership and day-to-day management of KS1 ensuring high-quality provision, outstanding teaching, and strong outcomes for all pupils. The Assistant Head Teacher will foster an enabling environment where children are safe, nurtured, challenged, and inspired to become independent learners. Key Responsibilities 1. Leadership and Management Lead the vision, strategic direction and development of KS1 in line with school priorities. Model outstanding practice, setting high expectations for staff and children. Provide effective line management to KS1 teachers and support staff. Monitor and evaluate the quality of KS1 provision through observations, learning walks, planning scrutiny and data analysis. Support staff performance management and identify professional development needs. 2. Teaching, Learning and Curriculum Ensure high-quality teaching and learning across KS1. Oversee assessment systems (e.g., phonic checks, non-statutory SAT’s and data tracking) Use data to identify gaps in learning, implement interventions, and track impact. 3. Safeguarding and Welfare Ensure a safe, stimulating and well-organised environment that prioritises pupil wellbeing. Uphold school safeguarding policies, reporting concerns and ensuring all staff understand their responsibilities. Support staff in managing behaviour positively and consistently. 4. Partnerships and Communication Build strong relationships with parents and carers, promoting positive engagement in children’s learning. Lead meetings and transition events for new and existing families. Work collaboratively with our Trust, external agencies, advisors and early years networks when necessary. Support smooth transitions between KS1 and KS2. 5. Environment and Resources Manage resources effectively to support high-quality provision. Ensure learning spaces are inclusive, accessible, purposeful and engaging. 6. Inclusion Promote equality of opportunity and ensure provision meets the needs of all children, including those with SEND, EAL or vulnerable groups. Work with the SENCO to plan and monitor targeted support.
