About the role

The opportunity: As a Teacher of English at WHSG, you will be part of a successful and collaborative team that is passionate about the subject and committed to securing the very best outcomes for students. You will have the opportunity to help shape the curriculum here, designing lessons across all key stages. There may be the opportunity for additional responsibility within the department. The WHSG English Department’s curriculum intent is to develop a genuine and lifelong love of language and literature in all our students and to cultivate an ethos of intellectual curiosity. Students at all key stages are taught at a level beyond the national curriculum, and our team of subject specialists strive to promote interest and enjoyment in the learning of English by providing a supportive yet challenging environment. Reading, particularly non-fiction, is a key focus across the school. We have worked hard over the years to develop a range of extra-curricular opportunities for each year group, including theatre visits, residential trips and workshops. There will be the opportunity to lead and further develop these experiences, as well as contribute to provision across the wider department. We also have a well-stocked library and a full-time librarian who supports creative writing clubs, book clubs and opportunities for students to engage with national literary competitions.
