Ringwood School Academy ยท Ringwood, South East
The Mathematics department at Ringwood School is a vibrant and lively place to work. There are currently 13 members of the team that come from a variety of different areas before specialising in maths. The department culture is student centred with a focus on engaging lessons to ensure that behaviour for learning encourages maximum progress. We use a flexible Scheme of Work that allows for stretch and challenge at all levels and follows a cyclical pattern across the year groups. The Mathematics team is friendly, mutually supportive and works together and with other teams across the school to produce an ethos and atmosphere which is conducive to learning. We recognise the importance of learning from each other to include sharing best practice both within and between schools. We are dedicated to continually pushing ourselves with new topics and resources and we regularly have a trainee teacher within the department, so we benefit from continuous learning. The majority of our maths classrooms are located in the main corridor with interactive Promethean white boards in every room. The department office is located on this corridor where there is space for working with computers as well as an area for socialising and relaxing. We recognise the importance of creating a dynamic, innovative learning environment to support young people with their learning. Mathematics staff work closely with teaching assistants from the Learning Support department to provide for those students who find mathematics difficult. We also have a dedicated Numeracy Support Teacher who provides targeted intervention for small groups of students across a range of flightpaths and grades. The passion with which we teach is reflected in the large numbers of students who choose to study Mathematics A-Level. It is by far the most popular choice at A-Level at Ringwood School, allowing us to have 2 or 3 classes in year 12 and 13 currently running each year. We also offer A-Level Further Mathematics and support for application to Oxbridge universities for our most able mathematicians. Our results at A-Level over time are good and our GCSE results are often excellent with an overall positive Progress 8 score for Mathematics in the last few years. We aspire to continue with these excellent results as a department and work closely with the team to ensure that students are always making good progress. Applications will be considered as received.
