About the role

“A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots.” - Marcus Garvey The Laurus Trust are looking for an exceptional, enthusiastic, and dedicated Teacher of History to join our highly ambitious and successful Humanities department. Whether you’re an Early Career Teacher or an experienced Teacher, we welcome individuals who are committed to delivering high-quality, engaging History lessons that foster curiosity and academic success. Defining ‘powerful knowledge’ in history is problematic and it is possible to argue endlessly over the relative merits of one topic or period or another. However, it is perhaps easier to agree upon some general principles:

Children have a right to know about the world in which they live. They have a right to be taught about humans in the past, what those humans did and how we live today with the consequences of what happened before we were alive. They have a right to be taught about the kinds of stories humans tell one another and how humans live in societies that are divided in different ways by wealth, class, gender and race. The response to delivering on these rights, and of making sense of this complexity, is the academic discipline of history. Therefore, the powerful knowledge history curriculum at the Laurus Trust seeks to provide students with an induction into this great discipline. For further details on the role, including key skills and experience required, please see the Job Description and Person Specification attached below. To learn more about what the Trust offer, including our wide range of employee benefits and access to further professional learning, visit our Careers page. The Laurus Trust recognises the importance of employees' work/life balance.  A better work-life balance can increase staff motivation, reduce employee stress, improve performance and productivity and make employment more accessible for more people. Where it is possible and practical, we will accommodate flexible arrangements from day 1, which may involve job sharing, part-time working, bespoke timetabling or a nine-day fortnight. If you would like to join our Laurus family in a rewarding role that changes the lives of our students by empowering them to become the best that they can be then we would love to hear from you.  To complete an application form please click ‘Fast Apply’.
