Maiden Erlegh School of Reading (MER) is seeking to appoint a committed and highly effective Head of Year to provide strong pastoral leadership and ensure excellent outcomes for students across an allocated year group. This is a key middle leadership role, combining high expectations with a positive, solution-focused approach. You will lead the pastoral team, support high standards of behaviour, attendance and wellbeing, and ensure all students are supported to achieve their full potential. You will also contribute to the delivery and quality assurance of the Personal Development curriculum and tutor programme, working closely with colleagues, families and external partners to secure strong outcomes for all. Key Responsibilities -Lead and manage the pastoral provision for a designated year group, ensuring consistency and high standards -Deliver and quality assure the Personal Development curriculum, including tutor time and assemblies -Monitor student progress, behaviour, attendance and wellbeing, using data to inform targeted interventions -Line manage and support the tutor team, including performance management and professional development -Work proactively with families and external agencies to support student engagement, safety and inclusion -Ensure safeguarding procedures are followed rigorously and concerns are acted upon promptly -Contribute to whole-school priorities, maintaining a positive, inclusive and aspirational culture -Support transition processes and key events, including parentsβ evenings and year group activities The Ideal Candidate -Qualified Teacher Status with successful teaching experience -Proven ability to secure strong outcomes for students through effective teaching and pastoral leadership -Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to model high expectations -Experience of using data to monitor performance and drive improvement -Ability to build positive, professional relationships with students, colleagues and families -Commitment to inclusion and supporting vulnerable and disadvantaged students -Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities effectively Maiden Erlegh School in Reading (MER) Maiden Erlegh School in Reading is an ambitious, over-subscribed 11-16 secondary school in an urban context.
