About the role

We are looking to appoint a talented teacher of chemistry and/or biology to join our successful, committed and friendly Science department. A TLR payment may be payable for aspirational candidates. The Science Department at NBS is one of the strongest is an already outstanding school, achieving Progress 8 scores of +1.50 in Chemistry, +1.21 in Physics, +0.92 in Biology and +1.05 in Combined Science. This has been achieved by having passionate, caring and knowledgeable colleagues that embody the NBS Way and the key mission to Build a Better World. The department is a leader in the schools core initiatives of Catholic Social Teaching and Oracy as well as offering extra curricula opportunities such as Robotics Club and various STEM trips. The Science Department has also been a key player in the expansion of the NBS Sixth form, with ever expanding numbers of students choosing to take the Sciences, ability for candidates to teach to this level is desirable. The department is going through an exciting period of transition which means there are opportunities for development for the right candidate. The School’s latest Ofsted inspection in November 2023 rated Nicholas Breakspear Catholic School as ‘Outstanding’. The School’s recent Catholic Schools Inspectorate Section 48 Inspection in March 2023 rated Nicholas Breakspear Catholic School as ‘Outstanding’. Nicholas Breakspear is a vibrant, nurturing and ambitious school. Situated on the outskirts of St Albans the school benefits from large spacious grounds and close links to London. This role provides an excellent opportunity for someone to join a school which values inclusivity and kindness and which allows children to flourish and grow in confidence.
