Teachers in our department continually develop their specialist knowledge for teaching mathematics, working collaboratively to refine and improve their practice. This takes place during time that is specially allocated for professional development on a weekly basis. At Key Stage 3, we work closely with the Maths Hub to implement a Mastery Curriculum from year 7. We believe that everyone can learn and enjoy mathematics and we provide strong foundations that will allow students to progress confidently to KS4 and beyond.β€―The Maths Curriculum ensures a coherent and detailed sequence of essential content to support sustained progression over time, and it is regularly reviewed and refined to suit the needs of our students. Outcomes for KS4 for Maths at Kingsmead are very positive, leading many students to study the subject at A-Level, and making it an extremely popular course, with around 60 A-level students in each year group. We also offer Further Maths with most students accepting Maths-related university courses Learners in our department develop conceptual understanding and ability to use the language, symbols and notation of mathematics. We instil a love for the subject by teaching students to reason mathematically by following a line of enquiry, discovering relationships and making logical arguments and justifications. The Role As Deputy Head of Department, you will work closely with the Head of Maths to: Support the strategic leadership and day-to-day running of the Maths department, always promoting and implementing school policies. Drive improvements in teaching and learning, with a sharp focus on the experience of disadvantaged pupils. Lead on specific areas such as curriculum development, assessment, KS4/KS5, or development of teaching and learning (allocated based on strengths). Work collaboratively with all stakeholders, with a focus on coaching and supporting colleagues, including early career teachers.
