About the role

We are excited to be advertising for a Teacher of MFL who is a Spanish specialist, including the ability to teach A Level Spanish. This is an exciting role, joining our flourishing MFL department. This is a permanent full time position, however, a part time contract may be considered for an exceptional candidate. The MFL department at TGGS is currently in an exciting period of development, in which we are teaching Spanish, French and German to our students. Languages are popular within the school with the vast majority of students choosing to study a language to GCSE and a growing number opting to study one at A Level. Within the department, our intention is to combine the best of communicative and grammar-based language teaching to create an ambitious and enjoyable curriculum which instils a life-long love for French, Spanish and German literature, art and culture alongside an ability to communicate meaningfully in the target language. We believe that language learning is an intrinsic human ability which develops a range of transferable skills and that all learners have the potential to achieve fluency with the right teaching and motivation.   Currently, all students study two languages at Key Stage Three (changing to one from September 2026) and at Key Stage Four, students have the option to study one or two languages. Whilst languages have recently become an optional subject at GCSE, we are very pleased to have approximately 80% of the current Year 9 cohort choosing to continue studying a language at GCSE, with a significant number opting for two. We have a healthy uptake at A level each year with many of our former A level linguists continuing to study languages at university in the UK or overseas. We are always looking for ways to expose our students to the culture of the target language countries and have found creative ways to do this within our curricula; building in geography studies, a topic focusing on Spanish art and film units amongst others. Last October saw 50 Year 11 students travelling to Paris to put their language skills into action and the aim is to introduce more trips within the coming years. As a department, we are committed to evidence-based practice and keep up to date with the latest research and developments in languages teaching whilst also engaging fully with the school's teaching and learning Framework. If you would like to arrange a school visit, please contact Sarah Forster, Headteacher, via Louise Rumbelow, Headteacher's PA (lrumbelow@tggsacademy.org) or if you have any questions in relation to the role or the recruitment process, please contact Abigail Henwood, HR Manager (personnel@tggsacademy.org).
