We are seeking an Assistant Facilities Manager to join our Facilities team. The role is primarily based at Great Park Academy, with responsibility for supporting additional sites across the Gosforth Group, including travel between locations within the Multi Academy Trust as required. Our Assistant Facilities Managers work on a rotating shift pattern. This currently requires a member of the Facilities team to be present on site during both school and community hours (6.30am to 9.30pm, Monday to Friday). Additional allowances will be paid where applicable. The current shift pattern is: Week 1: 6.00am – 2.00pm Week 2: 1.30pm – 9.30pm The shift pattern can be discussed further at interview. You will also receive a shift allowance of 10% of your basic salary when working a rotating shift, and time and a third for hours worked after 8.00pm. The successful candidate will assist the Facility Manager in ensuring that the school is clean, safe and conforms to all statutory requirements. On a day‑to‑day basis, the Assistant Facilities Manager will be responsible for opening and securing the school, undertaking some cleaning duties, and supervising activities before the school day begins and at the end of the day on a rotational basis. The role will also include providing porterage services to support timetable requirements. The role will require carrying out regular facilities inspections and implementing any remedial actions arising from these inspections. This will include operating plant and machinery to maintain appropriate conditions within the school, as well as identifying and recommending improvements where necessary. WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR The successful candidate will have experience operating building heating, ventilation and plumbing systems, along with a working knowledge of health, safety and security practices. Supervising staff and contractors while on site is a necessary part of the Assistant Facility Managers role therefore it is essential that you are able to quickly establish good working relationships, mutual respect and are able to communicate clear instructions and expectations to all stakeholders, resolving issues in a calm and methodical way, where necessary. As the role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, the post holder will need to demonstrate flexibility, strong time‑management skills, and the ability to adapt quickly to new and evolving demands. It is essential that the successful candidate has working experience of using Microsoft Office i.e. Outlook, Word and Excel, and it is desirable that you have experience of working with digital and manual reporting systems.
