About the role

The role in a nutshell We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Mathematics Lead to provide strategic leadership for mathematics across both phases of the academy. The successful candidate will have a clear vision for mathematical progression, ensuring a coherent, ambitious, and inclusive curriculum that develops fluency, reasoning, and problem-solving from early number through to GCSE.  They will demonstrate strong subject knowledge and effective pedagogy, model high-quality classroom practice, and support colleagues through coaching and professional development. The Mathematics Lead will use assessment and data intelligently to monitor standards, address gaps, and raise attainment, while promoting confidence, enjoyment, and high aspirations in mathematics for all pupils. Strong leadership, collaboration, and the ability to inspire both staff and learners are essential. The candidate Be an experienced and enthusiastic Mathematics specialist with strong subject knowledge across number, algebra, geometry, statistics, and problem‑solving Have a clear vision for mathematical progression from early number through to GCSE, ensuring coherence and challenge across phases Demonstrate high‑quality classroom practice that develops fluency, reasoning, and problem‑solving, and be able to model this effectively for others Be skilled in adapting mathematics teaching to meet the needs of pupils with disrupted education, SEND, SEMH needs, and very low prior attainment Show a strong commitment to inclusion, equity, and high expectations for all learners, particularly the most vulnerable Use assessment and data effectively to identify gaps, inform teaching, and raise attainment Have experience of leading, coaching, or supporting colleagues to improve mathematics teaching and learning Be a collaborative and motivating leader with strong communication and organisational skills Be committed to building pupils’ confidence, resilience, and enjoyment in mathematics Have a reflective, solution‑focused approach and the ability to inspire both staff and pupils We welcome applications from everyone who believes they meet the expectations of the role regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, faith, or disability. To ensure that our staff composition is representative of the communities we serve, applications from groups who are currently under-represented in education including people with disabilities and people from minority ethnic backgrounds are particularly encouraged.
