About the role

The Role The Henrietta Barnett School is seeking to appoint a highly qualified and enthusiastic part time Teacher of Music from September 2026. The successful applicant will have the qualifications, skills and passion to teach curriculum Music to highly able students all the way from Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 5 and to deliver GCSE and A-level content with confidence. They will also display a willingness to deliver and facilitate a range of extra-curricular Music opportunities. There may be opportunities for leadership within areas of Music so we are looking for candidates with ambition and drive in their approach. Music is extremely popular at The Henrietta Barnett School as an extra-curricular activity; the vast majority of students have instrumental/vocal lessons either inside or outside school and many play more than one and often to an extremely high standard. The school delivers or facilitates often up to 15 extra-curricular music activities each week and hosts several student concerts showcasing a range of styles and genres. There are over 10 visiting music teachers who deliver a range of instrumental and vocal lessons. Our Music department is well-equipped with facilities, with two large specialist rooms, alongside break-out spaces and a range of rooms for instrumental teaching. There is uptake for at least one GCSE Music class per year and A-level Music also runs annually. Each year there are usually 1-2 students who apply to study Music at university and/or conservatoire level. The School The Henrietta Barnett School is a fully selective girls’ grammar school, situated in the beautiful surroundings of Hampstead Garden Suburb. Dame Henrietta Barnett, who was a social reformer, pioneer of education and champion of the poor and needy, founded the school in 1911. Dame Henrietta strongly believed in the power of education to shape people’s lives and founded the school to provide educational opportunities for the highest quality for its students. We were delighted to be awarded the title of State School of the Year 2023 and 2025 for Academic Achievement by The Sunday Times Parent Power Guide for having the best GCSE and A Level results in the country. Over 25 students a year gain places at Oxbridge and the vast majority go on to study at the top universities in the country. The aim of the school is to encourage and enable all students to make the most of their gifts and talents and to fulfil their academic and personal potential.
