Art and Textiles teacher - the role We are seeking an enthusiastic, organised and student focused teacher of Art and Textiles to join our highly successful department. As a Teacher of Art and Textiles, you will deliver challenging, inclusive lessons that secure the progress of all learners. All students in Key Stage 3 have two hours of Art a fortnight. The aim of the course is to develop pupils’ skills and confidence in dealing with issues regarding the visual world. Time is taken to ensure our students can develop a range of techniques and expand their knowledge and understanding across all areas of Art and Design. Our students are encouraged to use a variety of different media and to use the history of Art and Design and contemporary visual culture to inspire and enhance their own work. In Art our students' study all the requirements of the National Curriculum and the pupils’ grades are recorded across the whole of the faculty. The curriculum is a fluid modular system under constant development and review. This reflects our commitment to refining our practice and ensuring our young people can achieve and make good progress. We strive to inspire through rigorous design of activities that encourage the students to use their imagination and creativity, solving real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values. This allows us to teach a varied and creative curriculum which is in line with the National curriculum and the GCSE Specifications. The faculty has its own textiles suite with quality sewing machines, large art rooms, a computer suite, and workshops equipped with a combination of traditional tools, laser and digital technology. All students at Deer Park follow a modular programme in Art and Design in Key Stage 3 and a large proportion of our students choose to pursue an Art and Design subject in Key Stage 4. Students in Key Stage 3 have 4 hours a fortnight of Design Technology (two double lessons) and this ensures they could gain experience in each of the disciplines within the faculty. These 6-8-week modules encourage creativity and innovation and are designed to impart knowledge and skills through a practical hands-on approach. Students gain inspiration from different cultures and thought is given to the sustainability of the materials that they use. We are committed to inspiring pupils through high-quality design-and-make activities that develop imagination, creativity, and independent problem-solving. Students are challenged to tackle real-world and relevant design problems across a range of contexts, while considering their own needs and those of others. This approach supports the delivery of a broad and engaging curriculum that is fully aligned with the National Curriculum and GCSE specifications. The faculty is well resourced, with a dedicated computer suite and workshops equipped with a balance of traditional tools alongside laser and digital technologies.
