About the role

Are you an outstanding practitioner and an experienced leader ready to shape the future of special education? Greenacre School is seeking a visible and credible senior leader to join our team as Assistant Headteacher (SENDCO) . In this central leadership role, you will assist the Head of School with the day-to-day running of the academy while modelling extremely high levels of professional conduct. As a leader, you will focus on high level strategy, though you will still step into the classroom to model Quality First Teaching and develop vital relationships with our pupils. This is a replacement role as the incumbent has been promoted within the Trust. We are looking for someone to start in September 2026 . The School Greenacre School is one of the UK’s largest special schools, educating over 300 children and young people aged 3 to 19 with severe and complex learning disabilities. In addition to the main site, the school has a number of satellite classes, which are based within local mainstream settings. This model supports Greenacre’s steadfast commitment to social inclusion. Key Responsibilities Statutory SEND Leadership: Oversee the day-to-day operation of SEND policies, including the implementation and monitoring of Education Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). Vision & Strategy: Serve as a core member of the Senior Leadership Team, contributing to the school’s vision, values, and improvement planning. Staff Development: Provide dynamic leadership and supervision for teaching and support staff, ensuring robust performance management and high standards of conduct. Curriculum & Achievement: Ensure a rich, differentiated, and engaging curriculum that addresses the academic and personal needs of all pupils. Safeguarding & Wellbeing: Act as the Designated Teacher for Looked After Children and lead the academy’s commitment to safeguarding and pupil welfare. About You We are looking for a leader who demonstrates unconditional positive regard and has a proven track record of improving outcomes for children with complex needs. Essential Criteria: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a Degree (or equivalent). The National SENDCO Award. Extensive experience working with children across a range of SEND needs and key stages. Successful experience in school leadership (Senior or Middle Management). Full working knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE).
