The successful applicant will be subject to DBS and health checks. We are seeking to appoint an exceptional Assistant Headteacher SENCo to lead our SEN Team at the Basildon Lower Academy. Salary range: Academy Leadership Scale 7 - 11 £63,429— £69,828 (Actual starting salary £63,429 with performance-based increments available) Closing Date: Friday 15th May 2026 Position Available: September 2026 You will join an ambitious, bold and collegiate team who work hard and enjoy leading the school community. ‘Staff are well-supported and proud to work here’. (Ofsted 2023) The Basildon Academies are two ambitious Academies operating across two sites. The Lower Academy specialises in the teaching of our students aged 11–14, whilst the Upper Academy specialises in our 14–19-year-old student population. The Academies are approximately 1 mile apart. The Assistant Headteacher/SENCo is responsible for supporting the Deputy Head and Headteacher in the leadership of the Academy on a day-to-day basis, and in formulating and putting into effect the key policies and practices which ensure that the Academy’s strategic aims are achieved. Each Assistant Headteacher holds a defined portfolio but contributes fully to the collective senior leadership and whole school development. The Assistant Headteacher/SENCo will be responsible for providing SEN children with the support required to help them complete their education. To be considered, you must have: Qualified Teacher Status National Award for SEN Coordination (ora willingness to complete) Experience of successful leadership and management within a school Proven track record of achieving outstanding pupil progress for teams of children Responsibilities include: Designing and implementing SEND policy and procedures in line with the latest government SEND policy and regulations Taking accountability for the progress and attainment of SEND students Training teachers to work with vulnerable students Directly leading, coordinating, managing, and performance managing staff and resources within the SEND department Liaising with outside agencies and providers, as well as senior leaders, to contribute to the development of Academy strategies, practices, reporting systems and monitoring processes. Promoting Equal Opportunities and Child Protection as a fundamental aspect of all roles and practices in the Academies. Effectively using data to monitor, track and evaluate subject and intervention performance, implement appropriate interventions and timely curriculum and or personnel changes Setting the standards for middle leaders, monitoring and evaluating planning and practice across departments to achieve academy targets This post will line manage the Deputy SENCo, SEND and Well-Being staffing and resourcing.
