Saint John Houghton Catholic Voluntary Academy · Ilkeston, East Midlands
About us Saint John Houghton Catholic Voluntary Academy opened in January 1965 as The Blessed John Houghton Catholic School to provide a secondary Catholic education in the local area. The school has grown in size and reputation ever since. We are an 11-16 comprehensive school, providing education for girls and boys of all abilities and we pride ourselves on our inclusive nature. Saint John Houghton Catholic Voluntary Academy is proud to be part of the St Ralph Sherwin Catholic Multi Academy Trust. Our aim is to deliver ‘world class’ education, opportunities, support and care for every child as unique children of God. We strive to ensure that the children in our care are loved, valued and supported and leave us as confident young adults ready for life in modern society, equipped with the skills necessary to survive and thrive in the world of today. Jesus Christ is at the centre of our school and we strive to live by and teach the values of love, forgiveness, excellence, compassion and service to others. Our motto is “Garde ta Foi” which means “Defend your Faith.” We constantly ask for the ‘courage to do what is right’ which means standing up for just causes and for those who have no one else to stand up for them.
