We are looking for a Teaching Assistant who has a passion for supporting children and young people with complex needs in a specialist setting or with SEND experience. The safeguarding of pupils with SEMH needs is essential along with creating a secure and nurturing environment so that children attend every day possible.
You will work alongside the Principal and Senior Leaders to complement the professional work of teachers by taking responsibility for agreed learning activities under an agreed system of supervision. This may involve planning, preparing and delivering learning activities for individuals/groups or short term for whole classes and monitoring pupils and assessing, recording and reporting on pupils’ achievement, progress and development. You will also be responsible for the line management of a team of staff.

The successful candidates will:
Essential:
Have experience of working with young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities
Have anNVQ level 3 for Teaching Assistants or equivalent qualification or experience together with a working knowledge of national curriculum and other relevant learning programmes /strategies.
Have the resolve to make a real difference to the lives of children.
Be able to communicate effectively with parents and other professionals.
Work constructively as part of a team, understanding classroom roles and responsibilities and own position within these.
Work within a wider team to ensure the best quality education and support is provided for the children and young people attending Horizons Academy.
Desirable:
Have higher level Teaching Assistant status
Have a thorough and practical understanding of issues related to improving students’ progress and ensuring equality of opportunity both in and out of the classroom
