An exciting opportunity has arisen to work as part of a welcoming, talented and highly motivated team at Wren Academy Enfield. The successful candidate will assist the Senior Science Technician and the Science department in the smooth running of the department To ensure that resources are in place that will allow effective teaching of Science. The post holder will become part a team of technicians and will need to give active support to the vision and ethos of Wren Academy. Key Tasks: To support the Senior Science Technician with managing the Science Department’s resources. Maintain an appropriate health and safety culture, undertaking a variety of risk assessments, workplace inspections, checks and acting on any findings. Organise prep rooms and store rooms, ensuring they are kept to a high standard. To maintain an up to date inventory for the department’s equipment and manage the safe and correct disposal of redundant items, (chemicals & radioactive sources). To provide practical materials for lessons to support students’ learning as requested by teachers Oversee servicing and maintenance of equipment. Provide support and guidance to any other technicians and cover their duties when required. To be committed to developing technician skills as required. Support systems for ordering lesson equipment and removal and risk assessment awareness. To test experimental procedures when requested. To take a role in classroom based support for practical and ICT based activities. Liaise with all teaching staff to assist in developing systems and provision. Provide technician support in any relevant after school activities on two days. Meet regularly with Line manager for strategic planning. Any other related duties as directed by the Senior Science Technician. To take part in the break and lunchtime duty rota as required. Person Specification Professional Skills and Experience Possess appropriate qualifications and/or experience in a similar role, including knowledge of practical science across several disciplines. Be an excellent practitioner with the ability to inspire others. Be able to prioritise tasks and work to tight deadlines. Show evidence of continued professional development. Have relevant experience of working in comprehensive and multi cultural environments. Have sound technical understanding of school science issues.
