Joseph Norton Academy in Huddersfield is a special academy educating children and young people with complex Social, Emotional and Mental Health difficulties across Kirklees. With our new school underway in Deighton we are recruiting ready for our growth. We are seeking a dedicated, warm and resilient Inclusion Support Worker to join our team. In this vital role, you will work across the school, community, and family homes to ensure our pupils engage safely and effectively in a wide range of academic, vocational, and extracurricular activities. As an Inclusion Support Worker (ISW), your role extends beyond standard classroom support. You will be instrumental in building connections, developing strong relationships, and guiding our pupils toward a positive future. Your key responsibilities will include: Prepare the classroom environment to optimise learning Support pupils in class to access academic and vocational learning Act as a co-regulator for students experiencing emotional distress, employing trauma-informed approaches to foster readiness for learning Maintain accurate record-keeping by completing pupil records Lead specific activities and sessions Implement consistent learning routines at school, in the community, and in the family home to boost attendance and engagement Utilise approved de-escalation techniques and physical intervention, when necessary, to ensure the safety of students and staff during periods of crisis What you will need: Experience working in a school or similar setting Ideally, experience working with children/young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN) / Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs Education with GCSEs in Maths and English, or an equivalent qualification Hold a driving license with access to your own vehicle, OR a willingness to learn (this criterion will impact the starting salary if not met but we will offer support with driving lessons) What we offer: A values-driven, supportive environment.
