Estates and H&S Manager Location: Fareham or Romsey with requirement to travel Contracted hours: 37 hours per week Working hours: Core working hours are 8.00am - 4.00 Monday to Thursday, and 8.00am - 3.30pm Friday. However, cover hours range from 6.00am start to 10.00pm finish depending on location and cover requirements. Weeks per year: 52 weeks Salary: Grade E/F - Β£34,273 - Β£46,564 depending on experience This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and highly motivated estates professional to join The Gateway Trust in a trust-wide role. As Estates and H&S Manager, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safety, compliance, and smooth operational running of all our academy sites. Working across multiple sites, you will provide expert support to our site teams, lead on health and safety compliance, and step in to cover Site Manager responsibilities during periods of absence. Given the multi-site nature of this role, the ability to work autonomously, manage competing priorities, and make confident independent decisions is essential. You will be primarily based from either Cams Hill Secondary School in Fareham or The Romsey School in Romsey with a requirement to travel to other academies within the trust as and when required. Key Responsibilities Ensure health and safety compliance frameworks are embedded and consistently applied across all trust academies. Undertake regular reviews of compliance documentation including premises risk assessments (fire, water, asbestos), statutory maintenance paperwork, curriculum risk assessments, and strategic risk registers. Conduct compliance inspections, audits, and risk assessments, ensuring actions are recorded and followed up promptly. Cover Site Manager roles during planned and unplanned absences, maintaining full operational continuity and site security. Support the maintenance and upkeep of academy buildings, grounds, and facilities, identifying and reporting defects and hazards. Oversee statutory compliance obligations including fire safety, asbestos management, legionella control, electrical testing, and gas safety. Manage and oversee external contractors, verifying completion of tasks and ensuring compliance with trust policies. Provide day-to-day guidance and support to site staff across the trust, fostering a culture of professionalism and continuous improvement. About You Experience in a site management, estates, or facilities role, within an educational setting. Sound knowledge of health and safety legislation and statutory compliance requirements. Experience conducting risk assessments, audits, and compliance inspections. The ability to work autonomously across multiple sites with excellent organisational and time management skills. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to lead and support site teams. A flexible, proactive approach and the ability to adapt quickly to the changing needs of individual academies.
