About the role

Due to the internal promotion of a teaching assistant with HLTA, Brookside Primary School is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and experienced educator to work as our teaching assistant with higher level teaching assistant responsibility at least three afternoons a week.This job would suit a qualified teacher, an existing HLTA or someone willing to undertake the training to become a HLTA. The role involves supporting initially in our KS1 classes in the morning, working with small groups of pupils to lead learning in English reading, writing, phonics and mathematics. Three afternoons a week the member of staff will work as a HLTA covering the PPA time within classes. Most of the time this will be within our KS1 team but may at times involve leading classes in our EYFS or our KS2 team. At times the member of staff will be asked to lead classes at short notice due to staff absence and therefore will need to be able to think on their feet. The position will mainly involve working with small groups of children within whole class settings across the school, as well as some one to one work with children with Special Educational Needs. This position, three afternoons a weekwill involve leading teaching, mainly in KS1 classes.The successful candidate will receive medium term planning from the teacher and be expected to complete the planning, teaching and assessing of the lessons. Previous experience as a teacher, teaching assistant or working in a childcare setting is needed. There may be occasions when you are asked to cover midday supervisory duties to cover staff absence. The successful candidate will have: A track record of supporting young people, especially those with SEND Flexibility in their working approach Enthusiasm and commitment The ability to work as part of a team, or as an individual if required Sensitivity to the needs of all children Good literacy and mathematics skills (at least a Grade C at GCSE English and mathematics, or equivalent) A HLTA qualification or Qualified Teacher Status or a willingness to complete the HLTA qualification The skills to support children in EYFS and KS1 A knowledge of phonics or a willingness to learn quickly The ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality To be able to attend staff training and meetings when required Knowledge and understanding of how Early Years/KS1 settings work and the ability to support the learning of inquisitive minds through being able to plan next steps for learning, with the support of the classteacher
