Job description/key responsibilities: The EAL Teacher will play a key role in supporting students who are developing proficiency in English and are not yet able to fully access the curriculum through English. Working closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and external stakeholders, the postholder will deliver targeted language support, monitor student progress, and promote inclusive practices across the school to ensure EAL students thrive both academically and socially. Key Responsibilities Teaching and Learning Plan, deliver, and evaluate high-quality EAL lessons for students on a one-to-one basis and in small groups. Assess students' English language proficiency upon entry to the school and at regular intervals thereafter to inform intervention planning and measure progress. Develop and maintain individual EAL learner profiles, recording language proficiency, progress, and support strategies. Design and manage a teaching timetable that minimises disruption to students’ mainstream curriculum learning while ensuring appropriate intervention. Organise teaching groups according to students’ language proficiency and learning needs. Monitor and track student progress, adapting interventions as required to maximise outcomes. Identify potential barriers to learning, including possible SEND needs, and liaise with relevant staff where concerns arise. Student Support and Pastoral Care Provide pastoral support to EAL students, helping them integrate successfully into school life and access available support services. Act as a key point of contact for students and families regarding language support and school provision. Support students in accessing educational resources and additional assistance, including revision materials, technology, uniforms, and external funding opportunities where available. Collaboration and Staff Development Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral staff, SEND teams, and senior leaders to identify students requiring EAL support. Advise teaching staff on effective classroom strategies to support EAL learners and promote inclusive practice. Deliver training and professional development sessions to staff on language acquisition, EAL teaching strategies, and culturally responsive approaches.
