Salary: HCC - H5 Scale 9-14* actual salary Β£19,320 - Β£20,899 including outer fringe allowance, based on 30 hours per week, term time only plus 3 days Hours: Monday to Friday, term time only plus 3 days Start date: September 2026 *Full-time equivalent salary = H5 Scale 9-14 Β£27,983 - Β£30,269 (including outer fringe allowance of Β£729 pa) The position of Learning Mentor focuses on working with students who need additional academic support and mentoring according to their needs. You will support students in their learning, encouraging them to become independent learners and working with them to achieve positive outcomes. This role will involve supervising our SEN classroom. Already experienced in a SEN or mainstream education environment, you will be forward-thinking, engaging and resilient, and have an innovative style of mentoring, motivated by helping every student to reach their potential. The role will include one-to-one and small group mentoring and support to improve academic progress and learning. In particular, you will be able to support in Maths and English and will be able to work proactively with students so that they are able to access the learning planned by teachers. You must be experienced in or have a willingness to work with different learning difficulties as well as challenging behaviour. Main responsibilities will include: Supervising our SEN classroom within the department Promoting the inclusion of all students around the school Helping the students who are underperforming in their subjects and reluctant to learn, predominantly in Maths and English, on a one-to-one basis outside the classroom Providing learning activities for individuals and groups of students, adapting learning programmes to suit the needs of the allocated students, including tracking online lessons taking place and supporting with any technical issues Selecting and adapting appropriate resources and methods to facilitate agreed learning activities Working with school staff to identify students who would benefit from mentoring, contributing to assessment and the identification of priorities and targets Assisting and supporting students with special educational and general learning needs in order to develop their independence Implementing strategies and supporting students in self-esteem and confidence-building activities Listening to, encouraging and motivating students to resolve a range of issues that are creating barriers to learning Drawing up agreed action plans with students, outlining the aims of the mentoring Regularly communicating with key stakeholders about student progress and concerns Administrative activities such as maintaining an up-to-date list of external agency paperwork pertaining to students with SEND The successful candidate will: Have a minimum of two years’ experience working in a school-based role actively involved with students with SEND Have a strong ability in English and Maths and be confiden
