About the role

Queen Elizabeth’s Academy have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and committed non-teaching Head of Year to join our pastoral team. Due to the continued growth of the academy, we are expanding our pastoral structure, and this new role will be a static Head of Year position dedicated specifically to supporting our Year 7 cohort. This pivotal role combines pastoral leadership with academic support, ensuring students are fully engaged, supported, and able to achieve their potential as they transition into secondary education. This is permanent position, working 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, term time only. Key duties: Leading the pastoral care and academic progress of a year group Supporting attendance, punctuality, behaviour, and wellbeing Celebrating student success and fostering a positive year group identity Building strong relationships with students, families, and external agencies Promoting community cohesion through enrichment, healthy living, and student leadership initiatives Managing and developing a year team, ensuring high standards in registration, tutorials, and pastoral programmes Overseeing interventions for students at risk of underachievement, absence, or behavioural concerns The successful candidate will have: Proven experience in a pastoral role within a school setting Strong ability to lead, motivate and develop a team Excellent communication skills to engage with students, families, staff, and external agencies Organisational skills to manage data, interventions, and year group activities effectively A track record of improving attendance, punctuality, behaviour, and student outcomes Commitment to safeguarding, student wellbeing, and inclusive practice Flexibility to provide cover, supervision, and support across the school when required A positive role model with resilience, empathy, and high expectations for young people. Local community knowledge
