Our English curriculum fosters a life‑long love of the subject enabling students to communicate with conviction, read widely and think critically. Students explore a rich range of texts developing strong vocabulary, confident oracy and independent writing skills. At Harrogate Grammar School, English exceeds the National Curriculum through dedicated reading lessons, ‘Big Write’ sessions and explicit oracy and debate teaching. Our curriculum builds knowledge and challenge across KS3 preparing students for success at KS4 while golden threads such as social justice, morality, love and diversity deepen students’ cultural understanding.
