Science Technician

Salary: Scale 4 Points 7-11 (depending on experience) Hours: 36 hours per week, 42 weeks per year Closing Date: 12th June 2026 Interview Date: To be held shortly after closing date Reporting to: Senior Science Technician About This role We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Science Technician to join our Science Faculty. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting the delivery of high-quality science education by ensuring practical lessons run safely, efficiently, and effectively. The successful candidate will provide technical and administrative support to teaching staff, prepare and maintain equipment and resources for practical lessons, and assist students in developing their scientific skills. The role also includes supporting students on a one-to-one basis and in small groups, helping to raise achievement and engagement across the curriculum. Key Responsibilities Technical and Operational Support Prepare, set up, and clear away equipment, apparatus, materials, and solutions for practical science lessons. Maintain laboratories and preparation areas to a high standard of cleanliness, organisation, and safety. Assist with stock control, inventory management, and the safe storage of chemicals, equipment, and materials. Support the maintenance and repair of science equipment and apparatus. Monitor stock levels and report shortages to ensure resources are available for teaching and learning. Ensure compliance with procedures for handling and storing sharp tools and potentially hazardous materials. Support Teaching and Learning Provide technical advice and practical support to teachers and students during lessons. Assist in the development, testing, and evaluation of practical activities. Support teachers in preparing lesson resources, demonstrations, and differentiated materials. Work with individual students and small groups to support learning, including students with additional educational needs. Assist with educational visits, school events, exhibitions, and science-related activities as required. Help maintain a safe and productive learning environment by supporting classroom management procedures. Health and Safety Follow CLEAPSS guidance and ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations. Support the safe storage, handling, and disposal of chemicals and laboratory waste. Assist in maintaining high standards of health and safety across all science areas. Keep up to date with COSHH regulations and current health and safety legislation. Participate in first aid and other mandatory training as required. Professional Responsibilities Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
