Medical Support Officer Uppingham Community College Salary: Rutland NJC Grade 5 Pay Point 12-17(Β£25,193 - Β£27,329 per annum, approximate starting salary of Β£25,193) Hours: Term-time, plus 2 weeks (working 40 weeks per year) Contract Type: Permanent Working Pattern: Monday - Friday 8am - 4pm About the Role Uppingham Community College are looking for a caring, experienced and enthusiastic Medical Support Officer to join our team and be a proactive integrated member of the School Staff Team. Key Responsibilities To provide primary medical care and first aid to students and staff during school hours. To support pupils’ wellbeing by identifying health needs, managing medical conditions, and advising on appropriate care plans and reasonable adjustments. To work collaboratively with school staff, parents/carers, and external health services to promote a safe, healthy school environment and ensure compliance with health and safeguarding requirements. What We’re Looking For Basic medical knowledge, ideally with medical experience in a school or community setting. Up to date first aid skills desirable, training can be provided. Experience supporting young people with acute illnesses, injuries, and long-term medical conditions. Strong understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality, and child protection requirements desirable, full training will be given. Ability to build trust and rapport with secondary-age students in a supportive and professional manner. Excellent communication skills with students, staff, parents/carers, and external professionals. Confidence in maintaining accurate medical records and managing medication safely. Organised, calm, and professional, with the ability to manage a busy medical room independently. Decision making skills, to respond effectively to emergencies and changing priorities in a school environment. Qualifications: 4 GCSEs or equivalent, to include English and Maths Full, clean driving licence First aid at work qualification Experience: First aid experience Experience working with young people Good working knowledge of ICT Skills & Knowledge: Knowledge of child protection and health and safety procedures. Ability and willingness to undertake professional development. Good interpersonal skills. Empathy with children and young people. Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
