Academic/Intervention Mentor - English 34.5 hours per week - Term Time only Grade 6 - Pro-rata Starting Salary Β£22,604 (FTE Salary Range - Β£28,598 - Β£31,537) About this Role Crofton Academy are seeking to recruit an organised, positive, and enthusiastic Academic/Intervention Mentor to join our English Department and mentoring team from September 2026. The successful candidate will provide learning, motivation, and inspiration to encourage our pupils to achieve their best through focused intervention. You don't need to have experience of working in education to become an Academic Mentor, the role would suit an individual wishing to gain experience within an education setting, or a college/sixth form leaver wishing to gain valuable work experience. The Role Reporting to the Subject Leader - English, the primary responsibilities of the role will include: Mentoring individual and small groups of pupils providing activities to overcome barriers to learning, both inside and outside school, and thereby assist them in achieving their full potential. Providing small group and one to one tutoring, support and challenge to enable pupils to meet or exceed their target grades in English. Ensuring the planning and co-ordination of resources to ensure the smooth delivery of tutoring programmes. Assisting in the overall raising of pupil standards and achievements, through raising pupilsβ esteem, expectations and aspirations. The successful candidate will: Ensure that target pupils receive relevant mentoring and interventions to achieve their aims. Develop strong relationships with pupils, encouraging a passion for learning. Be passionate about English. Have strong communication skills with the ability to work on your own initiative. Be able to demonstrate the ability to build and maintain strong working relationships. Have a methodical and consistent approach to the organisation of the workload. You will be/have: Excellent communication and listening skills. Excellent IT, Literacy and Numeracy skills. Ability to assist Subject Leaders in planning effective actions for pupils at risk of underachieving. Ability to use assessment and attainment data to drive improvements. Motivated, flexible and have a passion for working with young adults at secondary school age. Able to encourage and motivate others.
