Purpose of Job
1. The Nursery Teaching Assistant’s
primary focus will be to work under the professional guidance of a teacher in
delivering lessons planned by or with teachers and/or support pupils in groups.
2. To
work with teachers as part of a professional team to support learning in
classes.
3. The
Nursery Teaching Assistant will be expected to progress pupils’ learning and to
assess, record and report on development, progress and attainment as agreed
with the teacher.
4. The
Nursery Teaching Assistant will also supervise whole classes occasionally
during the short-term absence of teachers.

Specific Duties
Support for Pupils
6. Use
detailed knowledge and specialist skills to support and progress pupils’
learning in both the indoor and outdoor environment.
7. Assist
with the development and implementation of Individual Educational Plans (IEP).
8. Establish
productive working relationships with pupils, acting as Key Person to a group
of children.
9. Promote
the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils within the classroom.
10. Support
pupils by recognising and responding to their individual needs.
11. Encourage
pupils to interact and work co-operatively with others and engage all pupils in
activities.
12. Promote
independence and employ strategies to recognise and reward achievement.
13. Provide
feedback to pupils in relation to progress and achievement.
Support for Teacher
14. Work
with the teacher to establish an appropriate learning environment both indoor
and outdoor
15. Work
with the teacher in lesson planning, evaluating and setting up the environment
as appropriate.
16. Monitor
and evaluate pupil responses to learning activities through observation and
planned recording of achievement as necessary.
17. Provide
objective and accurate feedback and reports to teachers on pupil achievement,
progress and other matters, ensuring the availability of appropriate evidence.
18. Be
responsible for keeping and updating records as agreed with the teacher,
contributing to records and reports to parents as requested.
19. Promote
positive values, attitudes and good pupil behaviour, dealing promptly with
conflict and incidents in line with established policy and encourage pupils to
take responsibility for their own behaviour.
20. Liaise
sensitively and effectively with parents/carers as agreed with the teacher
within your role/responsibility and participate in meetings and contribute to
reports.
21. Provide
general clerical/admin support, e.g.
produce resources for agreed activities etc.
